In a 3 day experiential workshop organized in Pune, India, urban and rural students engaged in toy making, bamboo work, and "best from waste" crafts.
This workshop, called Pratibimb, is part of Goonj's School to School (S2S) initiative, which aims to bridge the urban-rural divide by fostering meaningful connections through experiential learning. Grounded in collaboration and empathy, the program encourages students to explore creative solutions, share perspectives, and gain a deeper understanding of each other's realities. Through hands-on activities and reflective exercises, Pratibimb nurtures a generation that values shared learning, collective action, and inclusivity, inspiring them to build a more connected and compassionate world.
A total of 58 students participated in the event, including 21 students from rural areas of Thane, Osmanabad, and Latur districts, and 37 students from two schools in Pune.
The three-day event featured a series of engaging and collaborative workshops such as Enrichment Clubs (including toy making, bamboo craft, art & painting), disaster-focused activities, Kabadd Se Jugaad (Innovation from Waste), star gazing sessions, performances from the students, and various other games. These activities fostered meaningful interactions between rural and urban students, providing a platform to break down biases, build connections, and nurture empathy.
Activities were done in groups which ensured equal participation from all children.
To reflect on their experiences, students filled out reflection sheets at the end of each day, illustrating their thought processes and the insights gained from the day’s activities. Additionally, pre- and post-perception sheets were provided, allowing participants to express their thoughts,
feedback, and perceptions before and after the event. True to its mission, Pratibimb continues to bridge gaps, even in small ways, such as fostering a shift in perspectives among participants.
