Hi everyone,
For the world, the year 2024 is coming to an end but I am sensing an opening of new friendships among all of us here. They say things happen when they are meant to, when the time is right. That's true. The Goonj Foundation was born almost two years ago in May 2022 but it came alive, in the true sense, this year... with all of you, opening your hearts to it.
Winter is a season of giving that the world celebrates. BUT what does it really mean? Why does Goonj keep emphasizing dignity instead of charity? I believe there’s an urgent need to change our language and lenses because all too often, we approach giving through the lens of our own experiences—what we think others need. It’s best to replace the word 'giving' with 'sharing' so that we become a partner for doing good and remove all kinds of hierarchies in the process.
The GOOD NEWS is that giving also makes us come alive…connecting us to our own joy and to each other, making us stakeholders in our world. So giving is also for ourselves…
Wherever you are, we want to thank you for coming along and invite you to weave with us a world that makes this season of giving, personal, real, and meaningful.
