What do we see when we think of disasters? Often, disasters are framed as isolated catastrophes, and those affected are portrayed as helpless victims. But this is only part of the story.
Through Magsaysay Awardee Anshu Gupta’s compelling photography and firsthand stories from disaster zones, Goonj invites you to witness a different reality-one where people rise with resilience, dignity, and action, repairing and rebuilding their own lives and communities in the wake of devastation.
This exhibition challenges long-held narratives and explores how disaster response needs to move beyond relief efforts towards strengthening long-term community-driven resilience.

The conventional approach to climate crises often focuses on disaster events, overlooking the deep systemic vulnerabilities they expose and amplify. This interactive skills lab challenges that mindset, shifting the focus toward community-driven resilience and equity-centered climate response strategies.
Drawing from Goonj’s 26 years of frontline experience in India, this session will introduce a multi-sectoral, dignity-led model that transforms disaster response into a vehicle for long-term social and systemic change. Participants will engage in hands-on dialogue, exploring locally adaptable strategies that integrate equity, justice, and sustainability into climate emergency frameworks.
This convening is designed for practitioners, fostering a collaborative space to co-develop new approaches and examine how regional alliances can scale dignity-centered, community-driven responses to global climate challenges.
