The recent flash floods and landslides have brought catastrophic devastation across Nepal, destroying homes, schools, roads, and critical infrastructure while claiming the lives of locals and tourists alike. Over 1,000 people have been confirmed dead, and more than 4,400 remain missing. The scenes from the site are deeply heart-wrenching, and the scale of recovery ahead is immense. The Goonj Foundation is here to lend its support and is working directly with teams already on the ground.
Anshu Gupta and a team from Goonj recently visited Nepal to survey the ground realities, assess urgent community needs, and pitch in directly on site. Building on years of shared trust established during past emergency response efforts in the region, they met with long-standing partner organizations to map out an immediate and sustained path forward.
Our local Nepalese partners will adopt and activate the proven Goonj climate emergencies model—an approach fine-tuned over 27 years of frontline disaster response. Going forward, this locally driven effort will center on three core pillars:

Ground Operations Underway & Building Systems for the Future
Action on the ground has already begun. Together with our local partners, a processing center has officially been set up in Nepal, and collection and procurement pipelines are active. The very first dispatch of relief supplies from this center was successfully completed today.
However, our focus extends beyond responding to this immediate tragedy at scale. Our goal is to work alongside Nepalese organizations to establish permanent, resilient systems for the future—mirroring the institutional framework Goonj has built over decades in India. By embedding these systems into daily operations during non-disaster times, local communities will be far better prepared, organized, and equipped whenever future climate emergencies strike.
